About the Book

This is an outstanding contribution focusing its attention on agrarian relations in recent times in India with special reference to Kerala. Ani Lukose has attempted to project a visual record on the mind of te reader as to how labour movements have been a significant factor in shaping the agrarian character. The author is keen enough to highlight major developments and changes in agrarian relations due to the influence of massive labour movements and their indirect impact on agricultural production. A close study of the book reveals layer after layer, the roods of the strained labour-cultivator relations; giving a cue to a careful reader of their latent genesis. Exposition of politically motivated behaviour among the organisations of workers make a curious study. Opening up before us a wise panorama of an agrarian society steeped up in its own hues in the state of Kerala. No doubt, that Dr. Lukose centres her study in and around Kerala. But the interest that an integrated account ought to create has never been sacrificed. And that is what makes the book more purposeful.
