Mohammad Shabbir is a noted teacher, scholar and researcher in legal arena. The areas of his academic interest and research are: Islamic Family Laws, Islamic Jurisprudence, Islamic Criminal Law, Legal Theory/Jurisprudence, Women and Law, Poverty Jurisprudence, Human Rights, Law and Minorities, Law and Weaker Sections, Constitutional Law, Alternative Dispute Resolutions, Criminal Law, International Law, Family Laws / Personal Laws, Social Justice, Development of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Minorities within the Framework of the Constitution of India, and Gender Justice. He commenced his professional career as an Assistant Professor in 1978 at the Aligarh Muslim University. In 1992, he was appointed ‘Ambedkar Chair Professor of Law’, created by Dr. Ambedkar Foundation, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India. He is the recipient of ‘Siksha Ratan Puraskar’ and ‘Certificate of Excellence’ for his outstanding contributions in the field of law and legal education bestowed by an International Society. Professor Shabbir is the author of several books, and more than hundred articles and research papers published in national and international journals. He has also participated in various seminars, symposia and conferences both in India and abroad.
