About the Book

Emerging global market economy created by finance capital and technological revolution accelerated economic growth process followed by economic and financial crisis in various countries the world over. The development process has led to widening of interregional and interpersonal socio-economic disparities and marginalization, also threatening environmental sustainability of the growth process. Fast changes in the political and social institutions which accompanied the growth trajectory led to emergence of new challenges of political representation and social relations in terms of gender and culture with shifting power relations. This collection of papers provides new insights into methodological innovations required to grapple with emerging socio-economic issues in the era of globalization. About the Author / Editor

Surinder Kumar is Director, Giri Institute of Development Studies (GIDS), Lucknow. A doctorate from JNU, New Delhi, he was Ford Foundation Visiting Scholar, State University of New Jersey and LBL, University of California, Berkeley. Formerly, he was Professor and Head, Department of Economics; Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences; and Dean Academic Affairs at Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak. Before joining GIDS, he was RBI Chair Professor at Centre for Rural and Industrial Development, Chandigarh. Besides books, he has published widely in international and national journals.

Fahimuddin is Professor of Economics at the Giri Institute of Development Studies, Lucknow. He has thirty five years of experience in conducting research and teaching in the field of Development Studies. The focus of his research work has been on poverty alleviation, agriculture and educational development, marginalized groups and strengthening of grass root institutions of governance. He has authored six books and has published large number of papers in various reputed journals. He has visited China, Thailand and Iran under the Scholar Exchange Programme of the ICSSR.
