About the Book
Growing population in India has increased the pressure on natural resources. The complex and dynamic links between natural resources and regional development have long been recognized. Chapters in this book centre around the challenges emerging out of the resource use and regional development of the country.
This book, a felicitation volume in honour of Professor Baleshwar Thakur, comprises of two sections – regional resources and regional development – both revealing the interest of Professor Thakur.
Section one covers topics like resource regions, resources use, globalization and land use changes, water crisis, irrigation expansion and demand, floods forecasting and management, water quality and hydropower development. Section two features topics like inter-state disparities, indicators of development, sex ratio imbalances, borrowing trend economy and its impact, transportation and agricultural development, road transport regions, geosheelitics, climate change impact and mitigation etc. Both sections are interrelated as the various resources provide base to the development of a region. The book is interdisciplinary in its nature and ideal for the students of geography, resource management, regional planning and development.

About the Author / Editor
Rameshwar Thakur is former Associate Professor of Geography at B.R. Ambedkar College, University of Delhi. His research interests include Historical Geography, Regional Development, Agricultural Geography, and Cartography.
Inder Jeet is Professor of Geography at MD University, Rohtak, Haryana. His research interests are Water Resource Management, Climatology, Remote Sensing and GIS.
Rajesh Kumar Abhay is Assistant Professor in Geography at Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi. His research interests include Natural Resource Management, Regional Planning and Development.
Swati Thakur is Assistant Professor in Geography at Dyal Singh College, University of Delhi. Her research interests are Climate Change, Resource Management and Environmental Studies.
