The present study is a pioneering work in the field of Military Sociology. Misconstrued ethical, moral and national interests and closed structure of military system have led to self-denial of Military Sociology in India. Obviously certain strengths of Indian military could not become part of popular perception nor that of cognitive-critical framework of intellectuals.
This study is based on empirical data and has used both qualitative and quantitative aspects of military reality.
Inspired by Stouffer’s study of American Soldiers, the author has incorporated conceptual and theoretical dimensions to enrich empirical data. It examines the social background, morale and commitment of military personnel in the context of formal organization of military, its historicity and sub-culture.
Being the first such work in the area, it has raised several issues for further research and analysis.
