About the Book

Despite few positive benefits, the establishment of large industries and other development projects have caused large scale displacement of local population from their habitat and occupation. Thus, there is a need for focusing attention on various aspects related to resettlement and rehabilitation in order to improve the living conditions of the uprooted and other local population. The present study is an attempt in that direction. This study also attempts to study the impacts caused by the large industrial projects on the economy and society. Based on the findings of the analysis and extensive discussions, a set of policy measures for planned resettlement and rehabilitation of the people has been suggested. Hopefully, these measures would aid the government and other project officials in formulating the realistic resettlement and rehabilitation policies in future.
