About the Book

Written specifically as a course text for the students at postgraduate level, the book provides a geographical account of select attributes of population, such as age and sex composition, literacy, marital status, fertility, mortality and migration. The discussion on each topic has been presented separately for the global scenario and the situation in India. The book contains separate chapters on population policy and population-development-environment interrelations. It accords due emphasis on the analysis of vital events, and also endeavours to initiate the readers to basic demographic techniques-an area that has remained somewhat neglected in population geography so far. On the whole, the book marks a significant departure from the traditional pattern-oriented approach.

About the Author / Editor

Mohammad Izhar Hassan is Reader in Geography at Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak. A Ph.D. from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, his major area of interest is population studies in geography. Dr. Hassan has written over a dozen articles for journals of national and international repute. He is also the member of several professional and academic bodies including National Association of Geographers, India (NAGI), Indian Association for the Study of Population (IASP) and Regional Science Association of India (RSAI).
