“Models in Geography” aim at presenting the important models and theories in human geography at one place in a concise and cogent manner. These include System Analysis, Malthusian, Marxian and Demographic Transitional Models, Central Place Theory of Christaller and Losch, von Thunen Model of Agricultural Land Use, Weber’s Theory of Industrial Location, Rostow’s Stages of Growth, Heartland and Rimland Theories, and Laws of International Boundaries and Frontiers. Besides, the Limits to Growth and Laws of Migration have also been examined. A full chapter has been devoted to types and patterns of rural settlements, primate city, rank-size rule and models of urban land. Documented with the latest data, maps and diagrams, one chapter has been written on climatic change.

It is hoped that the book will be of immense help to the students and teachers alike. This will also be useful for those preparing for various competitive examinations.

About the Author / Editor

Born in Banhera (Tanda), district Hardwar (Saharanpur) in 1938, Prof. Majid Husain retired as Professor and Head, Department of Geography, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. He obtained his M.A., LL.B. and Ph.D. from the Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh and pursued his higher education in Swansea (Wales) and School of Oriental and African Studies, London.

Having an excellent capability to simplify the difficult concepts of geography in a lucid and cogent style, Dr. Husain has authored and edited over four dozen books. His “Human and Economic Geography” was published in English, Hindi and Urdu by the NCERT. His other books “Evolution of Geographical Thought, Human Geography, Systematic Agricultural Geography, Fundamentals of Physical Geography, World Geography, ” and “Geography of Jammu and Kashmir” have been widely accepted as text and reference books in several Indian universities and abroad too.

At present, he is actively involved in the IAS coaching at the Civils India, Delhi.
